Leaving Home: Minneapolis to Plymouth, WI

We got everything packed up on Thursday morning and it took us several hours to get everything organized. We filled up the trunk and the back seat - Amy Saar loaned us some camping gear (thanks, Amy!) and we went light on the clothing, but it seemed like we had a lot more to bring than we thought we would.

We headed out east to Ryan's parents house in Plymouth, WI, but Ryan is helpfully pointing west as we get ready to head out. California or Bust!!

Here we are excited to finally be on the road! It took about an hour to get out of Minneapolis, but our spirits were still high as we crossed the St. Croix into Wisconsin.

AND, pretty much at our first stop for gas, I dinged the inside of the car. I gouged the paint on the dash with my purse (Nay - I totally thought this was going to be our "50 Euro"). Ryan was very good about it and totally let it go - I think he accepts that living in this car for the next 3 weeks is going to create some wear and tear.

We stopped for our first dinner in Osseo, Wisconsin at Moe's "Almost World Famous" Diner. They actually had some Route 66 memoribilia up, which was kind of cool - pretty standard diner fare though.

And we made a pit stop to watch our first sun set together in the car. We weren't necessarily planning to make it to Plymouth that day, but we ultimately drove the whole way and got in around midnight. It was a long day of driving, but we wanted to spend all of Friday with the family and get some things done in Sheboygan.
